RED-EYED TREE FROG

Red-eyed tree frogs have bright green backs, blue and yellow sides, orange hands and feet, and LARGE red eyes. These animals have long legs for climbing, and suckers on each limb to help them stick to tree branches. Their green skin helps them stay safe from predators because it is the same color as tree leaves. If a predator is coming toward the it, the frog opens its  eyes very wide. The red color scares off the other animal! These frogs are very small, usually around three inches long.

The red-eyed tree frog lives in various rainforests, mostly in South America. They live in the understory of the rainforest. This is the second layer from the bottom. In this area it is very wet and hot. It is not very bright because the sun does not shine through. There are many plants and trees, although they are not very tall.

The red-eyed tree frog rests during the day, and stays up at night. This is when it hunts for food. The frog's red eyes helps it see better in the dark. These frogs are usually in groups. They eat  insects, or even other smaller frogs!
