KING VULTURE

The king vulture has a white body with black colored feather tips. Their heads and necks are multi-colored- orange, red, and yellow. Even though their heads are colorful, they are bald. Their bill is small, yet strong. King vultures are about 30 inches long. They have a large wingspan. On average, they are 7 pounds.

King vultures live in the rainforests of South America. Since they are a type of bird, they easily live in the top most layer of the rainforest- the emergent layer. This layer is very sunny because it is closest to the sky. There are no other trees blocking sunlight. They fly around these top trees looking for food. King vultures either eat different fish, or feed off of dead animals. If these vultures see smaller vultures eating, they will fly down and take over! This is why they are kings! King vultures are not endangered.
